GAZAN REFUGEES IN JORDAN LEARN FILMMAKING TO TELL THEIR STORIES

(AMMAN, January 29, 2008) Gazan refugees from the Jerash Camp in Jordan participated in the Hope Films training workshop and completed short documentary films about their experience away from home. The shorts deal with interesting topics such as heritage, Henna, beauty, survival, and acting ambitions.

Organized by the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative, Hope Films was made possible with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation. The Jerash refugee camp workshop was facilitated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The Hope Films initiative aims to empower local storytellers in disadvantaged communities with basic audiovisual production skills using inexpensive digital filmmaking tools. The short films are produced by collaborative groups of workshop students with technical support from the Cooperative.
