AFLA II JURY PICKS WINNING FILMMAKERS

March 30, 2010

The Fazee3 (Fantastic) Filmmaker Award for Round #2 of All.Films.Look.Alike competition goes to three amateur filmmakers.

The finalists of the second round of the AFLA have done a good job shooting a script that's much harder than the first AFLA script. The jury was impressed by the enthusiasm of the participating filmmakers. All participating filmmakers in this AFLA competition, with the exception of Mrs. AbuShnin, are under the age of 18.

"What we are doing here is planting the seeds of an indie filmmaking movement in marginalized communities," said Hazim Bitar of the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative, "and this takes lots of tender loving care and patience."

And the winners of All.Films.Look.Alike II competition for amateur and student filmmakers:

- Ms. Faten Jad'aan from Baq'ah refugee camp and Mrs. Safyia AbuShnin from Jarash/Gaza refugee camp. Both share the prize of $100 USD.

- Mr. Suhaib J'araat from Ghour Mazra'a village wins $100 USD (Sponsored by the Zikra Initiative)

Special mention goes to Munther Ajouri from Marka refugee camp who won the first AFLA competition.

We wish to thank the AFLA II Jury members Mr. Yazan Ashqar, Ms. Rawan Zein, Mr. Rabee Zureikat, Ms. Kian hattar, and Mr. Hazim Bitar for volunteering their time.

The AFLA III script will be ready for circulation in a matter of days.

All.Films.Look.Alike (AFLA) amateur and student filmmakers competition was originated by the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative to give filmmakers a chance to participate in a friendly, collective filmmaking experience without the pressures of grades, or having to write a script, and outside the very competitive film festival rules and guidelines. Above all, it's just fun. AFLA also gives mentors and coaches the chance to assess their students' progress objectively and to shorten the learning cycle by having the same script for all the films.
